COUCH LEVITATION TRICK

One of the most startling effects in magic has always been the levitation. Whether you levitate an assistant, a horse or a car, getting something to float has always pleased the crowd.
I will explain the illusion in terms of floating a woman, but the principle will work with any object, big or small, male or female.

Effect: The assistant is brought up to center stage. She is placed in a reclining position on a couch. Then covered with a large cloth.
She is commanded to rise. Once she has risen to a height of one foot above the couch, the couch is taken away and the performer walks all around the floating woman.
She continues to rise until she is well over the head of the performer. Then she slowly descends until she is level with the performer's head. Again she begins to rise. This time, the performer takes hold of the cloth and while she is rising, the cloth is whisked away. The woman is gone, vanished right in front of the audience.

The secret: The secret is in the couch (remember the couch from the above trick description?) and the rest of the effect depends on a mesh-like screen which is shaped like the assistant's body. As soon as the assistant lies down on the couch, the performer picks up the cloth which will be used to cover her. While this is taking place, the body mesh or screen is lowered over the assistant. Since the body mesh is clear, it is not seen by members of the audience. This movement is done by someone behind or off in the stage wings. The body mesh is moulded to resemble a woman, it is attached by four strings of invisible thread to a location controlled by another assistant. When the performer covers the woman with the cloth, it is the screen which is really being covered.

As soon as the woman is fully covered, she secretly slips into a hidden compartment in the couch. After the couch is removed to a backstage area, the woman gets out of the couch. Because the couch has played such a small role in the effect, most people forget about it.
The shape of the screen leads everyone to believe that the woman can still be seen from the audience. In reality, the trick is already done. Now the performer merely plays out his or her part.

The off-stage assistant watches the moves of the performer, lowering or raising the cloth covered screen as per the performer's commands. When the cloth is whisked away, the invisible screen can't be seen by the audience.

The body screen seems invisible for a couple of reasons, first the back ground or back drop is dark. Black is best. The mesh is made of a nylon material which can also be black or transparent. Either way the audience is unable to distinguish the mesh from the dark background.
It is usually a good idea to have the off-stage assistant raise the uncovered screen completely up out of view anyway at the conclusion of the trick, this keeps the stage area clear.
This effect is difficult for television magic, because the television eye can often pick up the movements. But this effect is great for a full stage presentation.

MAGIC TRICKS

Effect:
The magician puts 1 or 4 cards under his hand. He slowly lifts his hand and the cards float with his hand. Holding his hand above the table, the magician pulls the cards of his hand and drops them on the table.
You will need: A ring, matchstick, card(s)
Secret:
1. Put the ring on your middle finger. Then put the matchstick under the ring so that both sides of the match stick out.
2. Place your hand palms down on the table and place a card under your palm but above the matchstick. You need to practice this move to make it look like your just placing a card under your palm not above a matchstick.
3. Now you can lift your hand from the table. Press your fingers down a little on the back of the cards, they will remain in position and appear to be levitating..

Ice Ice Baby !!!

Effect
Pour some water into a cup, blow on the cup and then turn it upside down where out pops some ice cubes.
You need a cup or glass that you can't see through. You also need a small sponge and and some ice cubes.
Method
Prepare the cup by placing the sponge into the bottom of the cup. Then, drop a few ice cubes on top of the sponge and you're ready to go.
To perform pour a small amount of water (about an inch) into the cup. The sponge will absorb the water. Blow into the cup, wave your hands over it and dump out the ice cubes.
If you are using a disposable plastic cup for the trick, just throw it away at this time.
Watch the look of surprise on your friends faces.

Quick Coin Vanish

Effect:

A coin is placed onto the table. It is picked up and it magically vanishes.
Method:
First, let me tell you this is about as easy as a magic trick as it gets. Set the coin onto the table with your left hand. Say something like "Check this out" and reach over with your right hand. Then press down on the coin with your index, middle, and 3rd fingers with your hand and arm parallel with the table. Slide the coin towards you keeping in mind it should be completely covered up. Slide the coin off the table so it falls into your lap. Touch your thumb to your middle finger as if you are picking up the coin as it reaches the edge of the table. Keeping all your fingers closed still. Stare at where the coin should be as you slowly move your hand away from you back to about 6 inches above where the coin originally was. Start moving your thumb in a circular motion as if the coin is dissapearing. Slowly turn your hand around and spread your fingers apart. Now the rest is up to you. The more surprised you act and if you act like you were all fortunate to see a miracle, people will believe the trick even more and remember it ( and you ) forever , --------- maybe.

Light A Used Match

Effect :
You take out a box of matches and go to light your cigarette or candle but when you open them they are all used.
You then say I hate that when people put used matches back in the box, oh sorry it was me I hate it when I do that. You then proceed to take out the used match and strike it and it lights. You can have them already stashed in the dirty ashtray and take one out and then light your cigarette or candle.
Secret:
All you have to do to make it look like it is a used match is dip the match in black ink, and then wait for it to dry. Then dip it in ash and it will look like a used match but when you strike it the match will light like any normal match

Floating Ring Trick

Make some really thick salt water. REALLY thick. soak a piece of thread in it somewhere between 45 and 60 minutes. take it out and let it dry. Now you are ready. Ask someone for a ring. Tie it to the end of the thread. Hold the string so its like a pendulum. Now take a match and light the string down by the ring. The string will burn but the salt crystals can hold up a fairly light ring. An awesome effect.

Static Snake Charmer

Effect: You remove a plastic straw from its wrapper. Using the straw as a "magic wand" you command the wrapper to dance around the table.
You will need: a plastic drinking straw still in its wrapper.

Method: You tear off the tip of the wrapper and throw it away. Gripping the straw at the tip with the fingers of one hand, and firmly squeezing the wrapper with the fingers of the other hand, quickly pull the straw from the wrapper and drop the wrapper on the table.
Now, using the straw as a "magic wand", without touching the wrapper, slowly wave the straw over the end of the wrapper. The straw wrapper should sway around by itself as if in a hypnotic trance .

If the effect starts to wear off after a minute or two , you can re energies the wrapper by stroking it briskly along the straw.
This effect is due to static electricity. It is a real fun effect and works MOST of the time but can sometimes vary in effectiveness depending on weather conditions.

Open Sesame

Deal out 3 piles of seven cards face down. Ask a spectator to choose a pile. You then pick up the pile that the spectator selected and display the cards in a fan facing the audience. (It is not necessary for you to see the front of the cards.) Then ask the spectator to look at the cards and choose one, instructing them not to tell you which card they choose.
1) Put the cards that the spectator chose face down in between the other two piles to make one pile of 21 cards.
2) Deal out the cards one at a time into 3 piles of seven moving left to right .
3) Pick up each pile individually and then display the cards to the volunteer asking them to indicate which of the piles contains the chosen card. (They must not name their selected card).
Repeat steps 1 to 3 one more time.
After the steps are completed say the magic words "OPEN SESAME". You then pick up the pile of 21 cards and spell O-P-E-N-S-E-S-A-M-E by placing one card face down on the table per each letter spelled. Turn up the next card after spelling OPEN SESAME to reveal their selected card.

Six Shooter

Place the four sixes on top of your deck of cards before you do this trick. You also need a pen or pencil and a piece of paper.

Remove the four top cards from the top of your deck of cards (These are the four sixes you put there already) and lay these cards face down in a pile in front of the audience. Then remove six cards from the deck and place these cards in a separate pile.
Tell the spectator that you read minds and tell them which pile they will choose. Write "You picked the six pile" on your piece of paper and fold it and put it right alongside the cards. Tell the spectator to choose one of the piles and then read the paper. No matter which pile is chosen the note is true. One pile contains the four sixes and the other pile contains six cards. After the trick is finished put both piles on top of the deck. Do not let them see both piles of cards.

Mind Reading The Coin

This works best in medium/large groups, try when out with friends in a bar. For this you need a friend in on the trick. Line up 9 coins in a square 3x3 on the table.
Look away and invite someone to pick a coin by touching it. Next pick there coin by having a friend place there drink on a beer mat or coaster in the corresponding position top left top middle bottom right, middle middle etc.
For added effect stare into the persons eyes your mind reading..Get a couple of friends in on the trick to avoid suspicion.
TRICKKKKKK

Effect: A person becomes seemingly weightless and may be lifted from a chair on the index fingers of four smaller people. Although various explanations have been proposed, this classic stunt continues to mystify and amuse.

Stage 1:

The person to be lifted ( choose a fairly heavy person ) should be relaxed but upright on a firm chair. Feet should be on the floor and their hands on their lap.
The four assistants should stand two on each side of the person, one by each shoulder and one by each knee.

Each assistant should make fists with both hands, then extend the two forefingers and touch them together, gently but firmly the two assistants standing by the shoulders, place their extended forefingers under the seated persons right or left armpit. The other two assistants place their forefinger under the seated persons left or right knee
The person to be lifted thinks "down" and imagines him or herself to be sinking into the chair.
In this position, the four assistants should try to lift the person.

Stage 2:

The assistants should now place their palms on top of the seated persons knee or shoulder and together, exert a steady downwards force.
While they are doing this someone counts out loud from one to ten.
On the count of nine, the four assistants quickly take their former positions with extended forefingers under the armpit or knee. On the count of ten, they try again to lift the person. The seated person should think"up" and imagine himself or herself rising into the air.
If these instructions are followed carefully, the person will soar straight up into the air on the forefingers of the assistants.

This trick is very visual and can really entertain a crowd.
